About Me
I have worked as a child and adolescent psychiatric/mental health nurse, a public health nurse and program coordinator of a teen parent program, and a school nurse/high school health teacher. I started teaching in high school and transitioned to higher education in 2005. I have been with º£½ÇÖ±²¥ since 2008.
Education
I obtained my BSN from San Francisco State, selecting psychiatric-mental health nursing as my specialty area for the 5th semester. I obtained an MSN from Sacramento State, earning a school health services credential with a special authorization to teach health. I conducted primary research for the masters' degree, producing a thesis titled Siblings at Risk of Adolescent Paternity. In 2012, I earned a PhD from the University of California at San Francisco. My qualitative dissertation is titled Father Identity Development among Youth Involved in the Justice System.
Teaching Interests
I am interested in employing best practices in curriculum development and teaching with technology. I have also developed relationships with an extensive network of community health providers and have established effective clinical partnerships that benefit students in pre-and post-licensure programs. I especially enjoy teaching and mentoring students in research, quality improvement, and program evaluation.
Scholarly Interests
I have conducted research with youth involved in the juvenile justice system. I utilized qualitative methods to investigate adolescent father identify development among justice-involved young men. I conducted several mixed-methods evaluations, including one of a cognitive-behavioral intervention titled Thinking for a Change. I recently completed an extensive evaluation of a family therapy intervention, Functional Family Therapy, delivered to justice-involved youth who were returning from custody or court-ordered out-of-home placement.
